Rosa is the oldest child, but was raised by her father, because her parents separated. She gave birth to her first child when she was nineteen. Her daughter is now 8 years old. She has been in prison for four years now, and has eight years left. She doesn‘t want to talk about her case.
Her dream is one day to have a little grocery store, selling things and earning enough money, so that her daughter can study. Her daughter is living in an children‘s home in Cusco, and she visits her every Saturday.
Rosa has been on our team since we started. She is the force behind the industrial gauge 10 machine and has learned to operate it from scratch. In fact, she had never seen anything like it when she started in November 2016 and found it a bit intimidating. She is now an expert in making flawless fine jersey knit and will soon be making luxurious rib knits.
We share this story with you so you can get to know a little more about who is making your clothes. Some of the women we work with have pledged guilty and some not guilty. But we do not judge and it is not our business to investigate their cases. Our mission is to give the women who are motivated the best possible opportunity to get a better life during and after prison.
